As Lactation Consultants, our role is to understand your unique situation and help you navigate any challenges you experience feeding your baby. We will listen to you, answer your questions, and work together to find solutions that fit your family's needs (this includes families who bottle-feed, supplement or express human milk). We understand the importance of support during the postpartum period and are here to empower you with health-promoting feeding strategies to improve your daily routines and meet your goals.

A lactation consultation involves assessing the feeding parent and the infant and how they feed together. The consultation's primary goal is to empower the family and their healthcare provider(s) with information and interventions that promote health for the dyad.

An occupational therapist with IBCLC certification offers appointments at Canopy Health. The International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE) certifies Lactation Consultants who meet its' criteria, have passed an exam and continue to meet continuing education requirements.

Occupational therapists (OTs) work in feeding across the lifespan and are included on skilled feeding teams. They are highly trained in oral sensory-motor assessment and therapies, positioning, and swallowing dysfunction. OTs are developmentally focused healthcare providers who target participation and function as pediatric therapists.

OTs can also be trained perinatal mental health providers and are skilled in promoting health through parents' daily occupations. They consider roles, routines, cognition, emotional health, and needs. Feeding your baby is a complex occupation between parent and baby that can benefit from occupational therapy support.

OTs co-create solutions with their clients and are committed to providing inclusive, evidence-based, compassionate care that collaborates and aligns with the clients' care providers.

OTs are regulated medical allied health providers; some extended health care plans may cover their services.

Somatic Experiencing (SE) is a gentle, body-centred approach used for healing symptoms of trauma, chronic stress, and stress-related disorders. It offers you a welcoming, safe, and compassionate space where you can reconnect with with your body's healing resilience and wisdom. Somatic Experiencing does not require you to re-tell or re-live traumatic events. Instead, it offers you a compassionate space that listens to your body's cues and boundaries, builds its capacity to self-regulate, and gradually release symptoms of trauma and stress.

In an SE session, you will be carefully supported to track and feel body sensations in "manageable bite-size pieces". As your nervous system begins to build a felt sense of trust and safety, you start to feel better in your body, build resiliency to stress, and regain a sense of wholeness.

Doctors of Chiropractic – often referred to as chiropractors or chiropractic physicians – practice a drug-free, hands-on approach to health care that includes patient examination, diagnosis and treatment. Chiropractors have broad diagnostic skills and are also trained to recommend therapeutic and rehabilitative exercises, as well as to provide nutritional, dietary and lifestyle counseling. The most common therapeutic procedure performed by doctors of chiropractic is known as “spinal manipulation,” also called “chiropractic adjustment.” The purpose of manipulation is to restore joint mobility by manually applying a controlled force into joints that have become hypomobile – or restricted in their movement – as a result of a tissue injury.
